Nonfiction Writing: Art in Taiwan Unfinished
The plans to bring forth another “Taiwan Renaissance” since 2018 may be considered ideologically driven by whom. What is often overlooked, however, is that prior to the lifting of martial law in 1987, Art in Taiwan had never been recognized as a fully-fledged scientific subject. Even now, less than four decades later, research on Art in Taiwan remains unfinished. What is needed are more diverse methodologies, broader perspectives, and a more capacious and inclusive framework. The advent of digital archives has brought prewar newspapers and periodicals back into circulation, helping to redress longstanding gaps in the historical record. At the same time, in the Web 2.0 era, newly unearthed artworks and manuscripts, together with ongoing fieldwork and site-based investigation, call for a more sustained engagement with the methodological challenges and limitations of art history and related disciplines.
We invite submissions on Art in Taiwan from scholars and artists across disciplines and generations, with work engaging fields such as art history, visual culture, gender studies, cultural studies, and sociology. Through such contributions, we aim to advance this ongoing and unfinished project of nonfiction writing.
For submission guidelines and formatting requirements, please refer to the call for papers on the ARTISTICA TNNUA website or contact the publisher.
